Artist's Comments

This model was originally started for a tutorial in 3D Total tutorial, but I had to drop out part way through for personal reasons. I however retruned to the model and finsihed it in the end, if for no other reason than to maintain my sanity through some dark times.

The car was poly modelled in Lightwave 3D, and rendered in Lightwave also. The setup comprises 3 luminous polygons for reflections, and 3 size matched area lights, as radiosity was prohibitive on account of all the chrome and refractive glass.

You'l get the idea there, it's 3D modelled and rendered in Lightwave, with a final grading in Photoshop.

It's pretty simple. 3 large polygons roughly the same size as the top down dimensions of the car. One direct over, and one each side. The top is brightest, and the two sides less, one roughly 2/3 the brightness of the overhead, the other about 1/2. Then 3 area lights scaled to the same size as the polygons, and with the same relative brightness ratios. That way no GI is needed.

Oh, it's my car! I'm glad someone kept it washed, too! LOL! Remarkable modeling and rendering of this ultra sleep and sexy car! Very cool shape and colors...it would be even better to know what 3D package was used! Excellent work and congratulations on the DD!
